My name is Jay Angeles and I am a graphic designer/illustrator currently located in the bay area. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, specializing in Digital Design & Illustration.

Art was something that ran in my family, so I already had a natural sense for it at a young age. Design was something I did not get into until I was 12 years old, when I got my hands on a copy of Photoshop 6.0. Not to say that I’ve completely abandoned traditional art, but it opened me up to a new way of creating, digitally.

When I’m not working, you can find me watching animes/cartoons, playing video games, brushing up on new design techniques, traveling/sightseeing, playing sports, and eating. I am a bubble tea enthusiast. So if you ever plan to have a meeting with me, a nice boba place will do!

It happened around my 8th grade year. By then, most high school applications were already asking for e-mails, so I decided to create one. I wasn’t aware at the time that a more appropriate e-mail would be to use your name (e.g. j_angeles, jay_angeles). I autonomously created one under the name “becauseimjay”. It was spontaneous but I fell in love with the name and have stuck with it ever since.

Over the years, it became a little too much to type, so I decided to shorten the name and change the spelling to give it a unique quality. That ultimately led to “bcuzimj”.

When I first started designing, most of my work was realistic. I am perfectly capable of designing in any type of style, but nowadays, I am preferably comfortable with simple, flat designs. Adobe Illustrator is my best friend.

Let’s get in touch! I don’t bite.
